The Montclarion is the weekly, independent student newspaper of Montclair State University.  It was founded in 1928 as The Pelican.  It strives to report on campus news, arts, opinions and sports. The Montclarion aims to provide an outlet for young journalists to hone their reporting skills and learn about newspaper layout and design, while building a clip book to show employers after graduation.

The Montclarion’s first year as an independent newspaper was 2008-2009 after a long battle between MSU’s Student Government Association for financial freedom.

Kristie Editor-in-Chief

Kristie Cattafi is Editor-in-Chief of The Montclarion. She has also served as the Montclarion’s News Editor. Although Kristie is an English major she considers herself as a journalism major as well even though it isn’t offered as a degree at MSU.

JAMES WEBMASTER

Our mission is to bring The Montclarion into the age of new media, this includes the website as well as photos, videos, podcast and more.

James Carolan is a Junior, Broadcasting major and Anthropology minor, this is second year as webmaster for The Montclarion.

ROBERT PRODUCTION EDITOR

After graduating in May she hopes to find a job in journalism.

Our mission is to feature student cartoonists while creating print layouts and handling advertisements and classifieds.

Robert Aitken is a senior English major and in his first year as Production Editor for The Montclarion.

NELSON SPORTS EDITOR

Our mission is to make the news as visually appealing as possible.

Nelson DePasquale is a junior Broadcasting major and is in his second year as the Sports Editor for The Montclarion.

Our mission is to give the people of Montclair State University the most accurate, informative, and exclusive campus sports coverage.

KULSOOM NEWS EDITOR

Kulsoom Rizvi is a sophomore History major and in her first year as News Editor for The Montclarion.

Our mission is to provide stories that are important to the students on campus.

JOHN GRAPHICS EDITOR

John Pope is a senior Filmmaking major and in his first year as Graphics Editor for the Montclarion.

Our mission is to make the news as visually appealing as possible.

Katherine Opinion Editor

Katherine Milsop is a history major and journalism minor at Montclair State. This is her first year as Opinion Editor for The Montclarion.

We want Opinion to be the true voice of MSU students with columns and editorials that are informative, thought-provoking and enjoyable.

Emily Arts & Entertainment Editor

Our Mission is to Provide readers with updated news and events relating to the topic of arts and entertainment

Mandi Feature Editor

Mandi Balbi is a sophmore at montclair state. Being intrested in journalism as a minor,

she got started right away in the newspaper. she worked her way up slowly to become the Feature editor

Jill Photo Editor

Jillian Keats is a freshman Fine Arts Studio major with a concentration in Photography.

This is her first semester as the Assistant Photography Editor and with the Montclarion as a whole.

“As a Photography major, I want to learn as much as I can about the subject from

a photo-journalistic point of view.  I also want to ‘spread the word’ around campus using photos.”
