Rodents of the rat race are lacing up their air Jordans. Nov. 24 will be the day when instead of staying grounded to business or home telephone lines, cell phones can carry main telephone numbers. Even in a downward economy, the rat race is in no way slowing down, as a former hassle will become a memory.

The FCC gave the green light to the action, and as a result long gone are the days when someone had to walk indoors to answer a call. This is nothing new because cell phones have been instituted for quite some time, yet having your old number is a big move by the FCC. Phone companies are sweating now, especially because of the college aged student and the young businessman, the key audience to the " on the go" movement.

As the nuclear family has been shot dead by the gun of progress, it is not surprise that home phone lines are obsolete. There are repercussions however, on those who decide to switch to cellar as their main form of communication. Telemarketing. Yes, telemarketing also known as the devil's cousin is a repercussion that is slowly gaining speed. In the advent of the switch, the bombardment of telephone companies trying to make up for lost customers and happy go lucky lies about discounted merchandise can pile up in a voicemail inbox. Fortunately for now, cell phone numbers will not be publicly listed under the yellow pages. But that is only for now.

The pros and cons are quite balanced. It is just a matter of convenience for people. For those who like having their main line at home, no worries, this will still remain. For those who are never home, the cell phone is the link to that person with the rest of the world. It's as simple as the change from rotary to touch tone - it's supposed to make things easier. But now, instead of leaving your phone off the hook when Sprint wants to drop a needle near the receiver, you can set your phone to silent.
