Montclair State University's Alexander Kasser Theater will celebrate its grand opening gala on Oct. 7 with a presentation of The Forbidden Christmas or the Doctor and the Patient, a New Jersey exclusive written, directed, and designed by Rezo Gabriadze, starring Mikhail Baryshnikov.
Members of the campus, and surrounding community, will enjoy a champagne reception and post-performance supper for the first performance to be held within the the 499-seat theater .
The opening of the $26 million dollar construction will coincide with the appointment of Jedediah Wheeler as MSU's new Executive Director for Arts & Cultural Programming.
Wheeler is most excited about the opportunity to "test the boundaries" of the arts through dance, music, theater and opera by providing an assortment of "programming that this community has not encountered in the past," he said.
Baryshnikov, world-renowned dancer and actor, will star in the 90-minute piece in the most intimate theater anyone could imagine, Wheeler said.
