The Lady Red Hawks' soccer team received a 1-0 shutout - a

heartbreaking lose on Wednesday afternoon, after playing a remarkable, astounding game against Richard Stockton.

The game began with the Lady Red Hawks playing aggressively. They were determined by firing a couple of shots off the Richard Stockton goalkeeper. Senior forward Steph Sabaliauskas got the Lady Red Hawks motivated, by attempting three quick shots in the beginning of the first half.

Sabaliauskas obtained four out of the seven shots that the Lady Red Hawks earned in the first half against Richard Stockton, but were incapable of producing anything.

Sophomore defender Ruby Russell also fired up the crowd by attempting two shots, one of which was an incredible header that nearly found its way into the net. The Richard Stockton Ospreys also retaliated back with their offense by attempting five shots off Montclair State goalkeeper, Kristin Kuhmann, who demonstrated an impressive effort all throughout the game, with seven saves.

The second half of the game seemed to be very similar to the first, in that both teams produced a numerous amount of shots off each other's goalkeeper, but ended up with nothing to show for it.

The best opportunity that the Lady Red Hawks had was late in the second half when junior midfielder, Jess Amendola, booted a winding, curving shot that resulted in Richard Stockton goalkeeper, Becky Baisley, sprawling out to keep the game scoreless.

Moreover, both teams were not satisfied with the referee's calls, as well as the fans that criticized the referee all throughout the game.

In the start of the overtime period, the Richard Stockton Ospreys, Jen Schultz, led the scoring attack by driving the ball up Montclair State territory, and passing it to forward Kari Devine, who unleashed a fierce shot that found its way near the post for the game-winner.

The disappointing loss not only alters their record to (5-6-1), but also to (3-2) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Lady Red Hawks have repeatedly had their past history with Richard Stockton very similar to this game. This was the fourth consecutive meeting that MSU and Richard Stockton needed overtime to decide the winner.

Last year, the teams used the overtime period in both of their two meetings- a scoreless tie in the regular season and a 1-1 tie in the ECAC final which Richard Stockton won, unfortunately, on penalty shots.

The women's soccer team must now firmly concentrate on their next opponent, which is on Thursday against Stevens Tech. at the MSU Soccer Park at 4 p.m.
