Intramural Update

Issue date: 11/11/04 Section: Sports
The fall season for intramurals is slowing down as volleyball comes to a close. The last two weeks of volleyball have been deciding factors for the upcoming playoffs that begin Sunday Nov. 14. With four games left in the regular season and only one promised playoff game, this sport season has gone by quickly. Only 11 teams out of an original 12 will continue into the playoffs for the co-ed league. In the men's league a total of seven will move forward, leaving one team with a disqualification. The playoffs will soon be over, just like the school semester.
Many teams have shown a competitive strength for volleyball in the last two weeks. The B-sharps have won a total of seven out of their last 12 games, giving them a good push into the top few. MSA has a tough record to beat with nine out of nine victories. A perfect record within these two weeks might just lead MSA to the top. Those Guys are on their way to the same record scoring the lead with six out of six games. Some disappointing forfeits left teams with an easy win adding to their playoff ranking. With a 60 percent winning streak, NBP might also be a candidate for the top few. Silent Assassins is alongside NBP with the same number of wins within the last two weeks. Adding up the number of games, five were forfeits. The forfeits prevent these teams from entering into the playoffs. Even with the help of forfeits, the teams who were not very competitive in the beginning of the season, are doing better with the playoffs on the horizon.
With midterms and finals, intramurals is a key element to stress reduction. Despite the mild dis-temperment while loosing a game or hitting a ball into the net, generally intramural volleyball has been a great recreational activity for the fall semester to benefit students. The captain of the Recreators Tony Fields puts it like this: "Volleyball was like a good therapist...it taught me to have fun and that life is about enjoying things with your friends." Many students come out for intramurals for their love of sport and fun. The intramural volleyball season has been an enjoyable time with only one more week left to play.
Intramural volleyball playoffs will begin Sunday Nov. 14 and are set to finish on the 22. Due to Campus Recreation events and obligations, there will be no games on the 17, 18 and 21 of November.
